That is a tricky question since I do, for the most part, support these laws since statutory rape laws are in effect to keep young teens from being taken advantage of by those who are more experienced then they are. Statutory rape laws deal with relationships where the power balance (either because of age or positions of authority) is off-balance which makes it difficult for the minor in that situation to consent without the effect of coercion being an issue. We can, however, expand this to sex in the sense that teens are given all of the information they need to have safe sex and know when/how they can consent, as well as know that they can get the supplies necessary for safe sex (condoms etc.) without huge amounts of difficulty.

While I believe that teenagers are more than capable of having consenting sex the fact is hat most are not exactly the same as adults in terms of experience and maturity, meaning they still need some protections in place to keep authority figures from taking advantage of a teen's innocence - especially within our current culture that often leaves teens and even some adults in the dark about sex and its potential benefits/consequences.
